Rice-activity Monitoring and Reporting

Rice-activity Monitoring and Reporting (RiceMoRe) system has been created to advance the monitoring rice production for evidence-based planning at central and local governmental agriculture offices. RiceMoRe assists in collecting and reporting data on rice cultivation on a weekly, seasonal, and annum bases.

The tool is user-friendly to operate at the commune, district, and province levels. It also standardizes the reporting format via a template for the district to the provincial and even ecological region levels. RiceMoRe integrates data management with a Geographic Information System (GIS) component to assist in mapping and illustrating production progress at the details up to the commune level.

An Excel-based prototype of the RiceMoRe system was developed as 'proof of concept' and piloted in Can Tho during three rice seasons of 2020-2021. From early 2023, in collaboration with the Department of Crop Production and the Center for Agricultural Digital Transformation and Statistics under Viet Nam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, RiceMoRe has been upgraded to a web-based platform and mobile application.

RiceMoRe enhances the accuracy and effectiveness of data management and reporting, which contributes significantly to informing climate-responsive action planning and decision-making.

On 9 September 2024, IRRI officially handed over the RiceMoRe system to MARD’s agencies. By the end of 2024, the system has been successfully scaled to 29 provinces all over Vietnam, covering 75% rice planting area in the country.

RiceMoRe was nominated as the Impressive Digital transformation application of the year for the National Television’s Awards 2024.
